CBS Creator of Sixty Minutes Dies

Don Hewitt, the CBS newsman who invented the TV newsmagazine “60 Minutes” and produced it died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer. He was 86.

“60 Minutes” which showed every Sunday evening was television’s top-rated show four times. It was still TV’s most popular newsmagazine.

Hewitt died at his Bridgehampton home, CBS said. His death comes just a month after fellow CBS legend Walter Cronkite.
